Heaven was glad for the fresh stock of food, seeing as the little beasts had bottomless stomachs. She smirked a little at Z'nel's comment, and replied while taking some meat out of his bowl. "It's not that I'm afraid of him, no. He needs to learn a lesson about manners." This time, looking right at the blue dragonette, the girl spoke to him. "Come over here and you will be fed. Stay away, and you'll have to starve tonight." To most, not feeding a baby of anything was cruel. But in her mind, it was just tough love.

The blue dragonette snorted stubbornly, keeping his distance from the demanding young woman and watching as the other dragonettes happily, and hungrily, ate their fill. It waited for a moment, watching, and, seeing that Heaven was not coming over to feed it, gave an upset chirp, 'I want food.' Its impatient voice conveyed the nagging hunger it felt.

Guessing either at their age they couldn't understand human speech, and that the blue one wanted to get his way, Heaven stayed where she was. She made sure to evenly split the food among the dragonettes, so that they all got about the same portion. With her silver eyes glued to the blue creature, the woman settled down in the sand once the meat was gone. In her hand, Heaven held a scrap, hoping that seeing his siblings full would perhaps force the blue dragonette to come forward.

The blue dragonette stared in an obstinate silence back at Heaven for several moments. Time seemed to stretch, inching bit by bit along with the chatter of dragonettes in the background. The blue dragonette scooted forward a couple small paces, moving slowly, cautiously toward the strict figure. A hungry tremor ran through the dragonette's stomach and finally, piteously, it broke the stiff silence. 'Why won't you feed me?' Its confused, angry voice welled up inside Heaven's head as, making a final decision, it hurtled headlong into Heaven's lap. 'Other riders feed their dragons!' It went on, its voice slowing to a calmer pace as it looked up, eyes two slowly whirling pools of angry, confused pinks and, oddly, a calmer, satisfied deep blue-green. Its eyes were the color of a still lake, a glass-like blue tinted with wayward bits of green plant life. 'I'm hungry.' the blue dragonette repeated, this time its voice held no anger though it did retain a slight, almost characteristic, impatience.

Heaven was amazed at how the tiny creature's eyes displayed emotion. Though it was over all a wonderful atribute of dragons, she couldn't help but wonder if those very eyes could one day giver away the true feelings of this animal. And if that did happen, couldn't that be used against the poor thing? Atleast the thought of herself being there to handle such a situation made her feel better. 'Now was that so hard? You had to learn to do as told before you get the reward of eating.' Opening her hand, the girl presented the blue dragonette with his prize- that final piece of meat she'd saved. 'Not everyone is lucky enough to get a meal every single day, so you should be thankful for what you've got. And besides, no one likes a fat dragon. Heaven laughed out loud, she always thought herself to be rather funny even when no one else did. A certain feeling of power took hold of her then, it was a new emotion but one she welcomed all the same.

' I wouldn't get fat!' the blue dragonette snorted, examining the meat it had been given for a brief moment before gulping it down, ' I am growing,' the dragonette continued as it ate, ' I am happy now. You are mine and I am your Gannon.' Gannon's eyes peered up at Heaven, churning loving, peaceful shades of deep, inky blues and violets. ' I'm still hungry.' her dragonette pointed out, ' Amithyst and her rider have returned.' A golden shape appeared high above the Hatching Sands of Daliath, coasting down to a relaxed landing. The rider was not wearing the gear required for dragon-flight and looked chilled from her trip between. "The trial is going well." Emillyn mentioned, explaining, "It's not over yet though, I've come to bring Israfel to testify." (Hey, Rabbit, if you want to change the dragonette's name with something else that would be fine. Irinth is there, more or less, as a place holder. If you do decide to use a different name for the dragonette, I'll just change it in this post. Nothing too crazy sounding though, okay? )

(Eh, all these names ending in -ith are kinda annoying, so I'm changing it to Gannon)
A laugh sat light and happy in Heaven's throat as the little dragon declared himself. Correction, her little dragon. It sounded good to say that, she liked his voice in her head. 'Gannon, nice to know what to call my new friend. And in return, I am your Heaven. I am yours from now on and forever.' That was how Heaven saw her new life, as a never ending partnership between herself and this beast. Resting her hand on the blue dragonette's scale covered head, she stood up. "Let's go get you some more food then, shall we?" Heaven decided to speak out loud for two reasons, one because it seemed rude to just walk off right when someone has just returned. And two, she thought it would be good for Gannon to hear her voice outside his own thoughts.

"Israfel," Emillyn repeated, "we need you to come testify at Covera's trial." Amithyst lowered her body, extending a leg so that it would be easier to mount her towering frame. ' We should hurry.' the golden dragon told her rider, ' I don't trust Covera.' Israfel stood in an out-of-the-way corner of the Hatching Grounds, staring blankly at Amithyst and her rider and not moving. "Israfel, we need to hurry back to the trial." Emillyn called down to him from atop her perch on the gold dragon, still shivering a bit from her trip between. Israfel still didn't move. Instead he stood there staring at the imposing golden beast, thinking or, rather, remembering. **Flashback (of DOOM)** Israfel sat, eagerly leaning forward, beside his father in the High Reaches Hatching Grounds. His cousin Iramel had been chosen as a candidate for the Hatching and, once they had heard the news, Israfel and his father had made the tiring trip over the mountainous terrain between their small Hold and the Weyr. Now that they were here, Israfel could hardly hold back his enthusiasm. Before he had come to the weyr, Israfel had never seen a dragon before. Now he was surrounded by them. And sitting, eagerly watching his cousin stand among the other candidates, he amazed by the contrast between the cold air outside the weyr and the stifling heat of the Hatching Grounds. "Mel is going to impress a bronze, isn't he dad?" the boy, perhaps 10 turns old, asked his father, referring to his cousin by an old nickname. His father didn't answer, instead pointing down to the eggs, glistening on the scalding sands. They were hatching. The first unsteady head pushed its way out of the shell followed by a body and a pair of delicately folded wings. It was a green dragonette, healthy and hungry. Soon more dragonettes began to push out of their shells and out onto the Sands, approaching the candidates with curiously whirling eyes. A few of the candidates stood their ground while the rest backed nervously away. Iramel was one of the candidates who backed away and as he did so he tripped on his long robe, falling onto the hot sands. A bronze came toward the startled boy and Israfel cheered for his cousin. The dragon kept going though, running over Iramel to the boy standing behind him. Despite the scratches he received, Iramel would be just fine although he didn't impress and retained a couple scars from the incident. Israfel, watching startled from the stands as his cousin lay bleeding on the sands not to be moved until after the dragonettes and their new riders were being lead away, never trusted either dragons or their riders after that. An attitude that would set him up for more trouble down the road. **Flashback Ends** Israfel remembered his cousin, remembered the way that golden monster had been about to eat him before but now expected him to trust her enough to ride her. "I'm not going." He didn't see why he should go. If his father was alive, safe and well, he would be able to withstand the old man's disgrace*. Emillyn sighed, worried about the amount of time this was taking, "Israfel, we need to go." she told him, "And we need you to come and testify otherwise Covera will only use this as further proof against her removal from her position." Thinking about what Covera might be saying at that very moment, Emillyn shuddered and this time it was from more than the cold of between. ((*is this really the word I want to use there? Hmm. Also... Fear the Flashback of DOOM! Muhahaha! I made this post extra long to make up for my recent lack of posting, or at least that's what I want you to believe. And about what happened to Israfel's cousin, in the series, perhaps around The White Dragon, it's mentioned that Hatchings used to rather chaotic with some candidates getting run over and such. So I'm really not going as far with that bit as it might seem. ;D))

(Can I take control of Heaven's dragon now, or do you want to keep him?)
Heaven didn't want to get involved with the affairs of the locals, it was just not safe for an outsider. But she didn't like the pathetic attitude of the young boy, so the woman decided to lend a hand to the situation. Patting Gannon on the head, Heaven left him beside the bench and walked herself over the hot sands and next to Israfel's side. "Be a man, and stop acting like a scared little child. Go and help your own father instead of sitting here like a dragon who has lost their wings." Her voice had that same tone, calm yet forceful. She took the kid by the arm and started to drag him toward Emillyn and her gold dragon.

Startled, Israfel allowed himself to be dragged along across the burning sands toward the towering gold dragon. Mind blank, he stumbled along in Heaven's wake, a frown creasing his brow. He didn't want to go. His father would never forgive him- the old man had been taught to be loyal to the dragonriders all his life and steadfastly refused to change that stance for any reason. 'Dragonriders are a breed above the rest,' his father would preach stubbornly, 'without them we would all be at the mercy of Thread.' But Israfel didn't want to go, didn't agree with his father, didn't trust dragonriders. Besides, why should he, Israfel, have to help these people in any way? He didn't know them. Suddenly, digging his feet painfully into the scorching sand, Israfel pulled away from Heaven and, foot throbbing painfully, pounded across the Hatching Ground sands. He was almost at the gate leading out of the Hatching Grounds. What happened next went by in a flash. Amithyst, patience pushed to the limit with Israfel's stubborn disposition, suddenly lurched forward and Emillyn, sensing her dragon's intentions, took a firm hold of the golden beast before both rider and dragon disappeared between. Appearing again, only a few feet above the ground, sending sand flying with the strong, steady beat of her great wings, Amithyst and her rider emerged from the dark abyss of between only for a moment. Grabbing Israfel firmly in her front (hands, paws,..?), Amithyst disappeared again, leaving the Hatching Grounds for the cold nothingness of between. Emillyn would have to make a note to point out the particular dangers of low, sudden, jumps between, especially when a rider isn't wearing any riding gear. It could be disastrous for an inexperienced rider, any rider, to attempt- she was, needless to say, in no way, pleased with her dragon's impatient antics. ((Rabbit, feel free to take over control of Ganth- he's all yours. ))
