Settled deep within Daliath Hold is the Lord (or Lady) Holder's Chambers. In a Northern Hold, these chambers would have been placed deep within the Hold because that was the safest place from thread but in the Southern Continent their placing is simply to avoid the sun's constant, blasting heat. Yet, as Lady Covera found, the positioning of these rooms- away from the daily traffic of the Hold and prying eyes, was perfect for her less than lady-like dealings.

"Israfel," Covera mused, "what an interesting name." She looked at the boy in front of her, held at arms length. The boy, Israfel, glared back- there was, at present, no one he hated more in all of Pern than Covera. He wasn't especially short nor was he tall and, while he wasn't the strongest for his age, he was strong enough to have rid himself of someone like Covera, under normal circumstances. These, however, were certainly not 'normal' circumstances. "All I ask is one simple favor," Covera was saying, "and you and your father can continue to live here just as you have for the past year but if not..." her voice, dripping with false innocence, trailed off menacingly. "Fine." Israfel agreed, angry with himself but seeing no other option. He had moved with his father from a small hold in the north to Daliath only a year before and, apart from his father, he had no family in the south. Covera must have known this, the first words from her mouth when she had first grabbed his hand in Daliath's crowded halls had been about his father's health and how sad it would be if 'Israfel' were to kill his father. Israfel knew what that meant and, though he dread the consequences of what Covera asked, what would happen if he didn't certainly seemed worse. ('Israfel' meaning Covera would kill his father and Israfel would take the blame and then, probably, be banished from the Hold, 'Kill' meaning Covera and her poison again. Yes, indeed, that woman is evil.)
